Environmental Public Health Leadership Institute Applications are being accepted for the fourth cohort of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Environmental Public Health Leadership Institute (EPHLI). The deadline is October 31, 2007.
EPHLI identifies, trains, and assists in the development of environmental public health leaders. Each year, the institute enhances the leadership and problem-solving skills of approximately 30 environmental public health practitioners. With these enhanced skills, practitioners are better able to anticipate, recognize, and respond to environmental health threats.

Candidates Needed for NCEH/ATSDR Board of Scientific Counselors The National Center for Environmental Health/Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (NCEH/ATSDR) is soliciting nominations for possible membership on the Board of Scientific Counselors. The board provides advice and guidance to the HHS secretary, CDC director, and NCEH/ATSDR director. Nominees for the board will be selected from experts in toxicology, epidemiology, environmental or occupational medicine, behavioral science, risk assessment, exposure assessment, and other related disciplines. Consideration is given to representation from diverse geographical areas, gender, ethnic and minority groups, and the disabled. Nominees must be U.S. citizens. Members may be invited to serve up to four-year terms. Please submit your nominations by October 17, 2007, to Sandra Malcom, Committee Management Specialist, at NCEH/ATSDR, CDC, 1600 Clifton Road NE, MS E-28, Atlanta, GA 30333. Sustainability Resources and Award Sustainability Library Resources This NEHA Web page has been created as a resource that members can use to find environment-related guidance and information. Links and book citations can be found on the following subjects: renewable energy, energy conservation, pollution prevention, and green building. NEHA Excellence in Sustainability Award NEHA’s Excellence in Sustainability Award recognizes members of NEHA who are solving environmental challenges by using innovative and environmental sustainable practices or creative partnerships. Any NEHA member, organization, company, or association that meets the specific criteria for the award is eligible, including applicants of the following types: 1. local, state, and federal governmental organizations; 2. not-for-profit organizations; 3. businesses; and 4. educational institutions. Applications must be postmarked no later than February 15, 2008. The award ceremony will be held at the NEHA Annual Educational Conference & Exhibition (AEC), June 22–25, 2008, in Tucson, Arizona. Texas Sanitarian Registration Program As of June 2007, Texas is offering reciprocity to those who hold the NEHA R.E.H.S./R.S. credential. NEHA R.E.H.S./R.S. credential holders seeking the Texas Professional Sanitarian (R.S.) may submit proof of their current NEHA credential in lieu of taking the Texas R.S. examination for registration. The Sanitarian Registration Program operates under the authority of the Texas Department of State Health Services, Professional Licensing and Certification Unit. To apply for the Texas Professional Sanitarian credential, please visit www.dshs.state.tx.us/sanitarian/rs_app.doc.
